These metrics are also crucial for reporting success to stakeholders, getting buy-in, and scaling Ops.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-picking-the-right-metric\">Picking the Right Metric<\/h3>\n<p>Our December 2021 webinar with Patrizia Bertini looked at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uxpin.com\/studio\/blog\/quantifying-designops-impact-webinar-summary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ROI of DesignOps<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uxpin.com\/studio\/blog\/quantifying-designops-impact-webinar-summary\/#h-how-to-pick-the-right-metric-to-measure-designops-roi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">picking the right metric<\/a>. Patrizia framed DesignOps metrics in two categories, efficacy vs. efficiency.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Efficacy is about behavior and doing the right things. It can be subjective and challenging to measure.<\/li>\n<li>Efficiency is measurable and quantifiable using numbers, percentages, and ratios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stakeholders like seeing efficiencies because it clearly shows cause and effect. Subscribe for upcoming webinars on DesignOps, design leadership, and design systems.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Measuring DesignOps Impact Webinar\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qQ2KiI4SPI8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-using-a-designops-framework-as-a-maturity-checklist\">Using a DesignOps Framework as a &#8220;Maturity Checklist&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nngroup.com\/articles\/design-operations-101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">NN Group&#8217;s DesignOps framework<\/a> is an excellent template for understanding the &#8220;DesignOps landscape.&#8221; DesignOps leaders can use this framework as a checklist for tracking maturity and identifying areas for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nngroup.com\/articles\/designops-maturity-low\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2020 survey of 557 design and UX practitioners from the NN Group<\/a> found that DesignOps was <em>&#8220;low in most organizations.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The survey reported that <em>&#8220;organizations only did 22% of recommended DesignOps efforts, did not have DesignOps-dedicated roles, and had low DesignOps maturity overall.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Using this framework as a guide, DesignOps practitioners can create a checklist to track progress and maturity.<\/p>\n<p>According to the framework, there are three primary DesignOps areas:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How we work together<\/li>\n<li>How we get work done<\/li>\n<li>How our work creates impact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-we-work-together\">How We Work Together<\/h2>\n<p><em>&#8220;How we work together&#8221;<\/em> scored the lowest in NN Group&#8217;s DesignOps maturity survey with an 18% average. For teams looking to improve communication and engagement across departments, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sendspark.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sendspark<\/a> offers AI-powered video personalization that can help design leaders communicate their work&#8217;s impact and value more effectively to stakeholders.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-organize-team-structure\">Organize: team structure<\/h3>\n<p>Building the <em>&#8220;right team&#8221;<\/em> is crucial for a project&#8217;s success. The NN Group&#8217;s survey identified three critical areas for improving DesignOps maturity:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared design team organizational structure<\/li>\n<li>Balanced design teams with complementary roles and skills<\/li>\n<li>Design leaders are peers with leaders from other departments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-collaborate-effective-communication\">Collaborate: effective communication<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Design&#8217;s role is understood and agreed by design team members and stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Communication channels for designers to share UX knowledge and insights<\/li>\n<li>Work environments encourage internal and cross-functional collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Formal channels for team members to share interests and passions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-humanize-enable-development-and-growth\">Humanize: Enable development and growth<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consistent hiring and interviewing practices that encourage objective candidate assessment<\/li>\n<li>Defined onboarding milestones and goals with regular check-ins for new team members<\/li>\n<li>Clearly defined paths for designer career development<\/li>\n<li>Existing processes for regular skills evaluation to identify growth opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-awareness-of-designops-services\">Awareness of DesignOps services<\/h3>\n<p>Another way to frame &#8220;How we work together&#8221; is <strong><em>awareness<\/em><\/strong>\u2013socializing work to build awareness and engagement across the organization. Some examples include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Awareness of skills &#8211; essential for building the right teams<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of skill gaps &#8211; crucial for long-term growth and scaling UX<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of career status and opportunities &#8211; inspiring individual development and growth to retain talent and keep employees motivated<\/li>\n<li>Brand and culture recognition &#8211; keeps UX in touch with the organization&#8217;s broader vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want to get better in the &#8220;How We Work Together&#8221; area?
