David Cronin

David Cronin

VP of UX at GE Digital

David Cronin is an interaction designer, strategist, and design leader. He leads UX efforts for GE’s Predix industrial internet software platform, as well as for Healthcare programs at GE Software.

Additionally, David is the design leader and product manager for Predix Reader, a mobile-first UX framework designed for 21st century industrial and healthcare workers.

Prior to joining GE in 2011, David was Director of Interaction Design at Smart Design, an award-winning product design consultancy and Managing Director at Cooper, the first design firm dedicated to the practice of interaction design for digital products. His early career was spent designing and building the first generation of large-scale, dynamic websites and applications in San Francisco in the 90s.

During his 15-year career, David has designed everything from consumer electronics to healthcare information systems and medical devices to a financial portfolio management and trading platform for the world’s largest asset manager. He’s happiest when he can work with cross-functional teams to make complex systems useful and enjoyable for the people who interact with them.

David is an experienced speaker, writer and educator on the subject of design, and is co-author of “About Face 3.0: The Essentials of Interaction Design” with Alan Cooper

Kyle is a product leader with 15 years of experience driving innovation and delivering products loved by customers and end users, building world class teams, and solving problems through a user-centered design process.

At Salesforce, he’s helped lead the discovery and design for the company's new product line — the Salesforce1 mobile app and the new Lightning Experience UI platform.

Previously at the startup incubator SproutBox he led a team of designers and engineers who partnered with an entrepreneur every 3 months to create and ship a new product from scratch.

Innovator, artist, protagonist, and positive provocateur, Maria has pursued a vision of intelligent, elegant, people-centered design throughout her professional life. Her grasp of the pragmatic, the authentic, and the essential have kept her at the forefront of design and business for over 25 years.

Under Maria’s leadership, Hot Studio, the experience design firm she founded in 1997, grew into a full-service creative agency with an impressive list of Fortune 500 clients. In March 2013, Facebook acquired the talent behind Hot Studio. In 2015, she joined Autodesk as VP, Experience Design. Her latest book, Rise of the DEO: Leadership by Design, is published by New Riders. Maria is an AIGA Design Fellow. She has spoken at conferences all over the world and currently serves as an adjunct professor and trustee at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Alastair Simpson

Alastair Simpson

Head of Design, Confluence, Stride and Platform at Atlassian

Alastair has 10 years of experience in user experience design at large growth focused businesses. Alastair is currently Head of Design for Confluence, one of Atlassian's largest products. He is a passionate advocate of using lean customer centric design and design thinking methodologies to solve complex business problems. He has helped many teams see its benefits and transition to leaner approaches to product development.

Previously Alastair worked at global publishers Reed Business Information as well as a digital consultancy firm consulting to Qantas, FOXTEL and Telstra. Russ Unger is an Experience Design Director in Chicago where he leads teams and projects in design and research. He is co-author of the books: A Project Guide to UX Design, Designing the Conversation and Speaker Camp for New Riders (Voices That Matter). Russ is also working on a design leadership that will be out soon.

Amy Parnell leads the User Experience Design team at LinkedIn; a centralized team of designers, user researchers and program managers. Amy's team is responsible for the design of all of LinkedIn's consumer, international and enterprise products, as well as internal applications and tools. Amy has led ​two large-scale redesigns of the LinkedIn product suite, culminating in the recent launch of a completely redesigned desktop experience. Amy's background also includes many years of hands-on product design work, creating digital media and social networking products used by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Matt is an interaction designer at IDEO in London. He has experience working on a wide range of projects, from initial strategic thinking to design development and implementation. Since joining IDEO, Matt has been championing digital prototyping for projects run out of London. He is always looking to understand the impact of new technologies and tools, and constantly in search of the next big trend.

Davis Neable

Davis has almost 20 years of product design experience. She’s worked at companies like IBM, Meta Marketplace, and most recently Shopify Plus.

At Shopify, her role is to advocate and execute user and customer-facing strategies with executives and product teams. When not designing, she’s usually running, biking or swimming.

Courtney Clark

Courtney is a UX designer and content strategist with over a decade of experience designing for nonprofits, foundations, and government. Some of her recent clients include Peace Corps, the American Red Cross, The MacArthur Foundation, and the California Air Resources Board.

Courtney leads the user experience team at Forum One. She has presented on UX, design research, content strategy, and design systems at conferences such as The O’Reilly Design Conference, Big Design, DrupalCon, and The Nonprofit Technology Conference.

Amy Vainieri

Amy Vainieri is a designer with over a decade of experience in both digital and print. Her career has focused on designing for non-profit, advocacy, and government clients—including Peace Corps, United Way Worldwide, and Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. She held a Fellowship in the Oregon Elections Divisions redesigning election materials for a more improved user experience, and is an advocate for election design reform. Amy has become an advocate for atomic design, with speaking engagements about the topic at several conferences in 2017. She holds a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from SCAD-Atlanta as well as a Bachelor’s from Emory University.

Outside of work, Amy enjoys watching baseball, listening to podcasts, sewing, and getting outside to hike whenever possible.

Aaron Powers

Aaron Powers is a Principal Design Researcher at athenahealth, where he is the senior expert within a team using statistics & data science to measure UX across the company. His focus is measuring UX’s value to the business.

Previously, Aaron led MathWorks’ UX data analytics team. Aaron has worked to build a better understanding of UX’s relationship to business, based on MBA work at Babson and at Carnegie Mellon as a researcher & HCI Masters. While his focus has turned to primarily quantitative work in recent years, he previously led UX design at iRobot & Opera Solutions.

Aaron co-founded the UX Data Scientists group on LinkedIn, a community of specialists focusing on measuring the User Experience using advanced methods such as machine learning.

Dr. Laura Granka

Dr. Laura Granka has been with Google for 10 years, leading UX Research for a team of 50 researchers.

She spent the past three years establishing and growing a UX Research team for Google Social, cutting across mobile, photos, Hangouts, Google+ and more. Currently, Laura is leading a team of quantitative researchers and software engineers to build innovative research tools and conduct large-scale analysis across Google Search, Maps, Identity, and other new efforts. She is passionate about baking data into design using research to inform and inspire products, as well as to predict trends.

Dr. Granka received her BS and MS from Cornell University, and her PhD from Stanford.

A passionate advocate of collaborative design and data triangulation, JD employs a combination of research methods across desktop, tablet and mobile devices to inspire and inform innovative solutions.

Prior to Airbnb, Jason served as a Creative Director at Yammer and Creative Director at MRM Worldwide.
